Why Online? Does it Really Work?

Are you a busy 9-to-5er who can’t get away from the office during regular business hours to get in-person help on your life, relationships, or business?

"Online

Perhaps you’re a busy mom who doesn’t have a minute let alone an hour to herself with all that you have to juggle.

What if you could cut out the driving time and eliminate the traffic stressors and have the ability to partner with your experienced counselor or coach over the phone or via video conferencing (e.g., Skype) at your convenience?

Perhaps you feel uneasy talking with a counselor in-person or you’re afraid to be seen walking into or out of her office.

Maybe you don’t want to have to rely on a babysitter so you can make it to your regular appointments.

Perhaps you live in a more remote area and don’t have the time to drive into the city to see a counselor or wouldn’t feel comfortable seeing someone in your own home town.

Recent studies by the likes of Columbia University and Johns Hopkins University have shown that working with a counselor online works just as well as in person, and maybe better.

How Does Video Conferencing Work?

Technology-assisted distance counseling or coaching involves the use of a computer, tablet, or mobile phone equipped with a webcam. If you don’t have access to this equipment, we can simply talk over the phone. Online counseling, also known as distance counseling, etherapy, virtual therapy, and tele-therapy refers to sessions that are not in-person, though if we’re using a video conferencing application, our meetings will be face-to-face online. While this medium may not be for everyone, it is definitely a convenient and effective fit for many. This way you can have your support network with you where ever you are – at the office, at home, traveling for business or even while you’re on vacation.

We meet at our scheduled time “virtually” using Zoom (a HIPAA-compliant video call platform), a service that is free for you and very easy to use. All you need is a computer, tablet, or mobile device equipped with a webcam or you can purchase a webcam separately. I can help you set this up in our first call if need be. We use our webcams to see and hear each other just as you would in an in-person, in-office setting.
